Lizard Island, Australia’s most iconic island resort, has reaffirmed its experiential luxury positioning by joining Luxury Lodges of Australia, a new association launched this week to promote the uniquely Australian breed of luxury experiential lodges, domestically and internationally.

Lizard Island joins 14 of Australia’s leading independent luxury tourism properties who represent both long-established and new lodges and camps, with a common theme of offering guests an outstanding experience connected to a clear sense of place -while ensuring key luxury standards.

Lizard Island has been one of Australia’s most iconic luxury island resorts for more than 35 years and now under new ownership of Delaware North Australia Parks & Resorts continues to offer discerning travellers a truly exceptional, Australian luxury island experience.

A constant favourite in the ‘world’s best’ lists, Lizard Island was recently voted as having the Best Leisure Facilities by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine UK, in addition to making regular appearances on the Conde Nast Traveller Gold Lists. Acclaimed for its pristine wilderness, innovative cuisine and world-renowned scuba diving, big game fishing and 24 deserted beaches, Lizard Island is just 150 miles north of Cairns on the stunning Great Barrier Reef, but is truly secluded from the rest of the world.

“Lizard Island epitomizes the best that Australia has to offer, offering unspoilt surroundings, world-class diving and snorkelling and the highest standards of gourmet dining. We have long been the discerning travellers’ favourite Australian island lodge, and by joining the new Luxury Lodges of Australia association, we are hoping to get the message out that Australia really does boast some of the world’s most unique tourism properties,” said Robyn Pontynen, General Manager of Lizard Island.

“Luxury Lodges of Australia brings together a portfolio of sophisticated, experiential properties and will showcase it on the world stage for the first time,” said Andrew McEvoy, Managing Director of Tourism Australia.

The association’s website, www.luxurylodgesofaustralia.com.au, will provide discerning travellers with a comprehensive information and planning tool for completely Australian itineraries, linking closely and smoothly to each property’s own website and booking systems.
